Overview
After the initial period of acclimatization to high altitude in Leh you will set out to explore the heartland of the central Ladakh Valley. After an adventurous rafting trip which will finish at the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus Rivers, the trek will start the next day from Chilling. The Markha valley trail continues past old stone-mills, a ruined castle and the auspicious monastery of Techa. The highest mountain pass which you will cross will be Kongmarula at 5200m. It is an ethereal experience walking on the banks of the Markha River on one of the world's highest inhabited plateaus. The highlight of the trip is the camping at 4700m at Nimaling, the highest camp on the trek, which gives us spectacular views of Kang Yatse to the right, the Zangskar Range and the Markha Valley below. Markha Valley is part of the Hemis National Park, and its trans-himalayan ecosystem has a unique biodiversity of wild flora, avi-fauna and mammals. The trek ends at Martsellang from where we drive back to Leh stopping at the Hemis Monastery enroute.
